If you were unable to be with us, we discussed two precarious passages of Luke 21 and Acts 5 set in light of the Acts 4 context. The early church was so inspiring in their selfless living. It is in that context that Ananias and Sapphira lied to God. The passage reminds us that God is still merciful & just even after the "Christ Event" (birth, life, death, and Resurrection). The church in Acts didn't have a law of what to give. The church did have a culture of giving. Ananias and Sapphira were not expected to sell their possessions and give to the members. Where they went wrong was in the deception of what they were giving. They posed as something they were not. Our commitment to the church and to one another is not a dollar amount. There isn't a law within us to give (even 10%). Let's have a culture of selfless giving not bound by any dollar or percent. Let's shift from thinking about 'big" giving and move towards obedient, cheerful, selfless giving.
Every sermon needs a call to action. A chance for each of us to respond to the Word of the Lord. If you missed that opportunity or you were unprepared, would you prayerfully respond now and click the 'give online' button below? Would you give not because you "should" or "have to?" Would you give because you GET TO?!
