To my friend Frans and all who care :),
Frans, you recently asked me my highest conviction. It is an important question. I really appreciate the phrasing of the question, particularly, because it came on the heels of my similar question to you. Ironically, despite living in a 'christian' country with hundreds of facebook friends and 'watching' friends, neighbors, and strangers this feels like a bold statement. My highest conviction is that Jesus was the greatest teacher, model, prophet, priest, and king. Further, I am convinced of the historical evidence that He was raised from the dead.
This conviction shapes the remainder of my life's values. His teachings train me to be a more selfless human. His life challenges me to be present with people every step of the way. His death shows me that my life isn't my own...but it is his, yours, and mine. The resurrection gives me hope and awe in God.
One of my highest values is to be a learner. I love learning through various modes. The highest 'calling' that Jesus request is just that...to be a disciple. Any historical evidence in contradiction was men/women who plainly got it wrong. I am learning about God, my family, my friends, and the world around me.
Finally, as a learner it positions me to be humble. I don't have all the answers. I don't know it all. I don't have it all figured out. However, I am confident that the one I talk with morning, day, and night does.
with much love,
